Lavos – A Legacy of Friendship, Fun, and Pure Thomian Spirit

Lavos was never meant to be just another tent at the Royal–Thomian.
It began as a simple idea between two friends—a small space where a bunch of loyal Thomians could come together, feel safe, and enjoy the madness of the Battle of the Blues.

The journey started in 2011, ahead of the 132nd Battle of the Blues, with a phone call, a bold ask, and a lot of faith. What began as a request for space for 60 people quickly grew into something much bigger. With the support of the Joint Match Organising Committee and a few senior Thomians who believed in the idea, Lavos received its first official contract—and a modest strip of land next to the legendary Mustangs tent. The Lavos spirit was born that year and has never looked back.

We were different from day one. While tradition leaned towards horse-named tents, we chose Lavos—a name deeply rooted in Thomian nostalgia. It was the nickname for the old senior lavatories at College, a place of camaraderie, laughter, and mischief before it made way for the Senior Science Block. The name raised eyebrows, sparked debates, and earned more than a fair bit of ridicule—but it also made us unforgettable. Lavos stood for memories, brotherhood, and not taking ourselves too seriously.

From blaring Paparé and DJ music to friendly negotiations with our more “peaceful” neighbours, Lavos quickly earned a reputation as one of the most vibrant enclosures at the match. Yet beneath the noise and fun, there was always respect—for the game, for tradition, and for everyone around us.

Importantly, Lavos was never about profit. From the very beginning, it was personally funded by its founders with one simple goal: to create a safe, all-inclusive, and unforgettable experience for our people. Any surplus was always given back. Long before it became common practice, Lavos may well have been the first enclosure to operate on a truly all-inclusive basis—so our members could simply walk in and enjoy the match without a worry in the world.

Over the years, Lavos evolved. Committees changed, generations shifted, and younger Thomians joined—many unaware of how the name came to be. But the essence never changed. That same excitement, that same sparkle in the eyes, and that same desire to belong remain at the heart of Lavos.

Today, Lavos is proudly carried forward by a strong team spanning multiple batches, with the support of the Classes of ’99, 2007, and 2010. Demand now exceeds availability every year, often selling out even before official match arrangements begin—a true testament to what Lavos has become.

Lavos remains what it always was:
a place built by friends, for friends—loud, loyal, slightly chaotic, but always Thomian.

Lavos lives on. ❤️
